As a newborn photographer based near to Guildford in Surrey, I’m so lucky to meet families during one of the most special and fleeting times in their lives. Today, I wanted to share a recent session to give you a peek into what a typical newborn shoot looks like with me — and what you can expect if you’re thinking about booking.

This lovely session took place at the client’s own home, making it easy and convenient for them – no packing up bags, worrying if baby would need a feed or nappy change just as they were about to get in the car and head to a studio!

Baby on Their Own – Tiny Details & Sleepy Poses

We always start gently, focusing on baby on their own. This part of the session is calm and unhurried — allowing plenty of time to settle the baby into their sleepy poses. I also include close-up detail shots so you can remember how small they were in those early weeks. If baby wakes up, I also capture a few lovely ones with their eyes open.

Baby with Mummy – Gentle, Emotional Moments

Next, it’s time for baby and mummy. These are some of the most precious photos I take — there’s something incredibly special about seeing a new mum holding her baby, full of love, awe, and sometimes a little exhaustion too.

I gently guide you into relaxed poses that feel natural. Whether you’re cradling baby in your arms or simply gazing down at them, these images reflect the deep bond between mother and baby.

Baby with Daddy – Protection & Love

Then we welcome dad into the photos. I always love capturing the contrast between dad’s strong hands and baby’s delicate frame. Whether it’s skin-to-skin contact or a proud dad holding his newborn close, these shots tell a wonderful story of protection, love, and connection.

Baby with Both Parents – Your New Family Story

Finally, we bring everyone together to celebrate your new family of three (or more!). These family portraits are full of love and togetherness, and they often end up being my clients’ favourites.

Like the rest of the session, I’ll capture both posed and candid moments — a quiet kiss on baby’s head or a shared smile between dad and Mum. Whethere you’re simply interacting with your baby — laughing, soothing, or soaking in the moment, you’ll gain a range of natural, authentic moments that will be unique and individual to you.
